Education
I earned my Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Cinema Studies and English from La Trobe University. I went on to earn my Master of Arts (Research) in Media: Screen and Sound from the same university. I am currently completing my Ph.D. work in Media and Communication at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Experience
I currently work as a writer (academic, film review, and general interest), and as an analyst for the Victorian State Government. I also teach Film Studies to undergraduates. I have experience tutoring undergraduate students in the Cinema Studies Program at RMIT, La Trobe University, and the Australian Institute of Technology. Teaching the Making Sense of the Movies unit included the teaching of complex film theory, including Psychoanalysis, Feminist Film Theory, and Genre Studies. I was able to prepare lessons that conveyed these complex theories in an accessible manner for students to relate to. After some coaching of individual students, I saw an improvement in their grades, in some cases by nearly 20%. I work professionally as a copywriter and editor and I edit academic articles for colleagues and peers. I teach Film Theory to undergraduate students and I coach several private students in essay writing, pre-exam strategy, and organization and study skills.
